Once you have an animation available in PowerPoint, there are several ways of adding interactivity to it. In this article, the use of triggered animations will be discussed.

Animations in PowerPoint are started off in a number of ways

  1. They may be delayed and started at a specific time in the future.
  2. They may start at the same time as another animation.
  3. They may start when another animation is complete.
  4. They may start when the user clicks anywhere on the screen.
  5. They may start when the user clicks on a specific object on the screen.

The animation below is an example of the last method of starting animations.

Before we look at the very minor details of this animation, let’s look at the various ways animations can get started. The animation featured above relies on a series of triggered line motion path animations. There are five ways to start an animation.

Five ways to start your animation.

The presentation below tries to illustrate the five ways animations can be started. It is important to note that there are major differences in the behavior of the PowerPoint desktop app and the PowerPoint web app.

Feel free to download this presentation (there is an option in the toolbar at the bottom of the slides) and experiment with the different settings described in it. Unless one knows about these differences animations in Powerpoint can become quite daunting.

The steps I followed:

  1. I inserted the text in a series of text boxes called steps.
  2. I covered the text with a screen.
  3. I moved the screen up with a series of line motion paths. See this blog on how to implement a series of line path animations.
  4. I attached a trigger to each of the line path animations. In the example below a click on Step 0 will move the screen up to reveal Step 1. A click on Step 1 will move the screen up to allow a click on Step 2 and so on.
A click on Step 0 reveals Step 1 etc.

    Learn PowerPoint Interactive Animation
Udemy hosts a course on Interactive PowerPoint Animations that I created. So, please visit it. PowerPoint presentations used in the course can be used as templates for your own animations. Moreover, I sometimes have discount coupons for the course to give away. I post the coupons on my Facebook page, but they go quickly, so I offer them to my mailing list first.
