The Point of this site (as in PowerPoint)
Please don’t forget to visit my Udemy course on interactive PowerPoint animations first…
Educators are mastering many new digital competencies as part of their new normal. It is not only COVID-19 that has brought it about, our society is also changing. Our learners expect to learn online. Our teachers expect to teach online. They do everything else there, why not teach and learn? Learning to create interactive PowerPoint animations is therefore key to the professional development of educators.
The European Commission has published a framework for the digital competence of educators (DigCompEdu). Mastering these competencies can serve as the basis for mastering teaching and learning online in any jurisdiction. The DigCompEdu framework covers six areas of competence. The purpose of this site is to share ideas that were developed during the pandemic to get our content to our learners. Areas 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the diagram below will be covered by content in the form of Blogs:
About me
I have degrees in Human Resources Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership. I recently retired from a career managing training institutions in the Vocational Education Sector in South Africa. My main client base was employers in the heavy industry, energy, mining, and petrochemical sectors. Our job was to train apprentices and operators for these clients. Being a developing country, our learners regarded their opportunity at our training institutions as a golden opportunity to better themselves. As trainers and managers, we didn’t want to disappoint them – we wanted to give them our best. When COVID struck in 2020, we wanted to take all necessary steps to ensure no one was left behind. We devised ways to use interactive PowerPoint animations to continue delivering some of our content online. It is these digital skills for educators that we learned during this process, that I am keen to share with others.
