To test Tutor LMS – free version, I’ll see if I can implement the following eight elements to a course in both Moodle and Tutor LMS: Bearing in mind that my comparator – Moodle – is also free it should be a fair comparison.
1. Display text.
2. Display images.
3. Display video from YouTube.
4. Embed some Web content – say the Phet interactivity from a previous video – in an Iframe.
5. Provide a quiz.
6. Issue a badge for passing the quiz.
7. Engage with students via a forum.
8. Engage with Students via an on-line interactivity like Jamboard.
I have created two free courses with these eight elements: One in Moodle and one in Tutor LMS. When you have done watching this video to the end, please look at the free Moodle Course – I’ll give the link at the end of this video – then follow the link that I give in the Moodle Course to the Tutor LMS course to see the differences. Once you have looked at both, please be the judge and leave a comment in this video so that others can learn from your experience.
There are other dimensions that one should compare the two platforms by:
In order to evaluate the efficacy of Tutor LMS in its basic, no-cost iteration, an examination is undertaken to ascertain its ability to integrate seven fundamental elements within a course structure, juxtaposed against Moodle, a comparable open-source platform. The elements under scrutiny encompass the display of textual content, images, and video sourced from YouTube, as well as the embedding of web content, exemplified by Phet interactivity within an iframe. Furthermore, assessment mechanisms in the form of quizzes, accompanied by the issuance of badges upon successful completion, are evaluated. Additionally, avenues for student interaction are explored through both forum-based discourse and online interactive platforms such as Jamboard.
This evaluation culminates in the creation of two distinct courses, each encompassing the aforementioned elements, one deployed within the Moodle framework and the other within Tutor LMS. Subsequent to viewing the instructional material, viewers are encouraged to examine the free Moodle course, accessible via a provided link, followed by a transition to the corresponding Tutor LMS course for comparative analysis.
Viewers are invited to share their observations and assessments in the comments section, facilitating an exchange of insights and experiences. It is acknowledged that beyond the outlined parameters, additional dimensions warrant consideration to comprehensively evaluate the comparative merits of the two platforms.
