Your role doesn’t really depend on whether you have to teach groups of people or not.
You might be a leader in your organization, and chances are you’ve built a PowerPoint deck over time—something that explains your team’s function, your strategy, or your business model. It’s been refined, updated, and improved. And most days, it works.
But what if that same slide deck could do more than sit in a file or show up at quarterly meetings?
What if you could embed that PowerPoint into a learning management system, make it interactive, and even track who watched it, what they understood, and where they clicked?
That’s exactly what I’ve done. In this post—and in a free Moodle course I’ll share below—I’ll show you how to go from static PowerPoint slides to gradable, interactive online video content, using only free tools.
Try It First – Interactive Demo Below
Before we get into the how and why, here’s a quick preview of what this post will show you how to build:
A short, interactive training video made from a regular PowerPoint deck — complete with embedded questions, feedback, and checkpoints.
🚀 Why You Might Want to Do This
-
You want to make sure your audience actually engages with your material.
-
You’d like to assess or track understanding.
-
You’re exploring ways to repurpose existing slide decks into online learning formats.
-
You want your content on an LMS like Moodle, without losing control or spending on expensive tools.
This is especially useful if you’re in:
-
Learning and development
-
Organizational leadership
-
Online education or course design
-
Public communication and outreach
The Four-Step Process to Create an Interactive Video from PowerPoint

✅ Step 1: Prepare Your PowerPoint or use an existing one
Refine your message and ensure each slide stands on its own. Add narration and animations as required When ready, export the entire deck as a narrated video from PowerPoint > File > Export > Create a Video. You can use live voice or scripted narration.
✅ Step 2: Save your PowerPoint deck as an MP4 file
When ready, export the entire deck as a narrated video from PowerPoint > File > Export > Create a Video. You can use live voice or scripted narration.
✅ Step 3: Make It Interactive with H5P
Upload your MP4 to H5P’s Interactive Video content type. Add:
-
Multiple-choice or true/false questions
-
Clickable buttons and jump points
-
Text popups, reflection pauses, or images
These transform your linear video into engaging, learner-controlled media.
✅ Step 4: Embed in Moodle (or Your LMS)
Once created, embed your interactive video into Moodle or any H5P-compatible LMS. If Moodle is your platform, you can:
-
Track completions
-
Grade learner responses
-
Run reports on who engaged with which parts
